Praying the Jesus Way, Part 3

relationship with god sermon spiritual principles

This message was shared by Apostle Kathryn Krick, Lead Pastor/Apostle of 5F Church in Los Angeles, CA, on January 3, 2025. To watch the full video, scroll to the bottom of this post. We pray this teaching blesses you and equips you to walk as a powerful vessel of God.

Today we are going to go deeper into how to pray the Jesus way. Prayer means many different things, and last week I taught about how to pray when you need a miracle. What I mean by “the Jesus way” is this: the Pharisees worshiped the same God as Jesus and they read the same Word of God, the Old Testament, the Torah. But their theology was almost opposite. Not only were they unable to recognize Jesus as the Messiah that they had been praying for, but they called Him a false prophet. They accused Him of using demonic powers to cast out demons. They crucified Him. If they got that wrong, then how wrong was their interpretation of the Word! This is what we call “old wine.”

Jesus came to bring the true revelation from God. This is the doctrine of what we believe today: the “new wine.”

Jesus preached things like: “These signs shall follow those who believe. They shall cast out demons. They shall heal the sick. I anoint you as an apostle, and you will do the same things I did, and greater.” He also said, “I am pouring out My Spirit and I am giving you gifts: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers.”

These gifts are to equip you and to build you up into maturity so you can be a powerful vessel of God and do the works He has called you to do. This equipping will continue until we come into the fullness of Christ, when Jesus returns.

Today, in much of the church, people are not embracing the doctrine that Jesus preached: that apostles and prophets are part of the foundation of the church (Ephesians 2:20). People don’t believe that the equipping from the five-fold ministry must continue and that apostles and prophets are alive today. If they don’t believe this doctrine, they are missing out on new wine. Instead they are drinking old wine. The same is true with Jesus saying, “These signs shall follow those who believe” (Mark 16:17). If Jesus said this, then why is deliverance not being embraced in the church when it is for all believers—not just for one ministry here and there? By and large, the new wine theology is missing in the body of Christ today, and this is why revival is needed. This is why God has brought revival, and we declare, “Revival is now!”

At 5F Church, many of the teachings may seem new. They may even sound like new doctrine, but this is simply new wine. It is not common today. That is why when I am teaching you how to pray the Jesus way. I am teaching you how to pray in the new wine way, in a way that is pleasing to God. That is what prayer is actually supposed to look like, and how prayer can truly be effective.

Last week, I taught how to pray when you need miracles. To summarize: God chooses to use vessels to heal and deliver, and this is His main way of releasing healing and freedom. There are exceptions when He doesn't, but this is His main principle. He uses His servants—leaders in the church, apostles, prophets, pastors, and teachers—to release His anointing.

We see this in the Book of Acts, where it says the believers were continually in awe of the signs and wonders performed by the apostles (Acts 2:43). This Scripture shows us that the bulk of the miracles that happened at the church were done through the servants of God. These servants were given a grace from God with high level anointing and authority.

Today many people pray and cry out to God in their room, ignoring this principle. Many don't know about God’s principles, or maybe they do know them but they don’t follow them because of pride, jealousy of the vessel God is using, or fear of persecution. But God doesn’t go against His Word and His ways. When people don’t come under the anointing, like Apostle Peter’s anointing, they often do not see the miracle.

But when you do it God’s way, it becomes so simple. Like in the times of Peter, people came under his shadow, and all were healed (Acts 5:15-16). Why? Because Peter had such a high level of anointing and authority that even principalities had to obey. And because this was God’s way. Simple. This is how God chooses to heal and deliver.

So if you simply humble yourself and submit to God’s ways, you will see miracles in your life. A lot of people miss it because they hold on to the old wine or pride. But it’s easy to do it God's way, and His love is so great that he wants to release these miracles to you with ease.

The right way to pray for miracles is with understanding. It’s not about long, dramatic, ritualistic prayers. It’s about simple faith and obedience. You can pray, “Lord, I am going to your true anointed church. I am coming under the shadow of your anointing through your servant. I believe and I thank you in advance for healing me today.” God is pleased with this kind of prayer because it is faith. You're showing simple obedience to His ways. That is the simple way to pray. Then you come and receive.

You do not need hours of shouting prayers or fasting to try to move God’s heart. There are some cases, with extreme demonic oppression, where fasting is important with the leading of the Holy Spirit because it makes your flesh die more and your spirit to rise. So it may be done as a preparation but it's not a set rule for everyone to follow if they need deliverance. People think it's their performance of rituals that moves the heart of God. But it’s faith and obedience that moves His heart. God already wants to heal and deliver you. You just have to do it according to His ways.

Now I want to teach about the different kinds of prayers in the Kingdom. There are the prayers of the servants of God, five-fold ministers, and there are the prayers of the citizens of the Kingdom, who are not five-fold ministers. For example, the Israelites prayed for deliverance, but their prayers didn’t directly bring about their deliverance. Their prayers showed God that they wanted Him and that their hearts were towards Him. Their prayers led God to do things His Kingdom way: to raise up Moses, anoint him, and send him to deliver the Israelites. That's God's way of bringing healing and deliverance.

Many people don't realize this. They think that their own prayers directly bring about healing and deliverance. They think, “When God hears my prayer enough or sees me fasting enough, that will bring the deliverance." No, your prayers for healing and deliverance show God that you want Him. They open the door for Him to come in power and touch you. God answers prayers by raising up servants, anointing them, and sending them to deliver His people. That is why it is so important to receive revival and to accept the servants of God. He has already answered so many prayers, but people are not going to the place to receive them. It’s as if the Israelites were to not receive Moses. All of God's mighty power was in Moses, to turn the heart of Pharaoh, to split the waters of the Red Sea, and to provide food in the wilderness. But you have to accept God's ways—His servants—to receive the deliverance, protection, miracles, and the promised land.

Last month I attended a Sight & Sound musical of Daniel in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. As I was there, I felt God’s heart so strongly to touch His people in power. Thousands of believers were in that theater, yet many of them had never truly encountered the God of power and miracles. I felt this burning in my heart from God for His people to be set free. I prayed a simple prayer: “Lord, let revival come to the people in this theater today and let them be set free and let their eyes open up.”

I got up to leave, and a young man who was a part of their prayer ministry team was saying, “God bless you, goodnight,” and I said, “God bless you; it was amazing.” He immediately recognized me, and he shared with me that he had seen one of my videos a couple years ago, and it had opened up his eyes to God's power and he was set free. He then told the young man who was acting as Daniel in the play that I was there, and he later wrote me an email testifying this:

“I have a praise report to share with you and your ministry. My wife and I work at Sight and Sound Theaters and we have been praying for breakthrough, for miracles and revival to take place in the company and ministry, for the audience to receive more than a show and to experience God in a tangible way. My friend was doing after-show ministry and told us that you attended the performance. I happened to go in that night playing Daniel because my parents were in town and I am one of the four men who cover this role. It has been a blessing, but a hard season navigating this role, and I have been crying out to God for more—to see him show up and do what he wants to do. Last week, I had never experienced that level of focus, determination, emotion, creativity, and presence. I feel that I have been battling a stronghold in my mind and soul regarding my identity in Christ and feeling like I am not enough to do this, but last week those shackles fell off. I don't know if you brought a spirit of breakthrough into that theater or you simply prayed for us before the show started and through that simple prayer power was released, because deliverance took place. For that I am grateful, so grateful. My heart is at peace, and so is my mind. Kathryn Kuhlman had a gift of faith, and that is what I believe you have. Maybe it was that gift that opened the heavens in that theater and it was because you showed up and brought the power with you. God bless you and your ministry.”

When I posted on social media that I had attended this play, I came across a comment that this actor’s mother-in-law left under my post:

“This is my son-in-law. He heard you were there but he didn't know this information during the performance. He said it made sense after he found out because the Spirit of the Lord was the strongest it's ever been during a performance. The presence of God was tangible that day. You must have released impartation to him that day because he's been seeing signs and wonders since that day. People are getting delivered and God even restored his eyesight to 20/20. Miracles are happening!”

The actor that played Daniel replied;

“I wish I could share more details about that night and what took place during that performance. I remember not being able to talk while walking off stage after Act 1 because of the presence of God. There was a burning that took place in me that night and something different about that show. Thank you for all that you do for your ministry. I believe your faith made a difference, being in the audience.”

Glory to God!

This is an example of how God works. This actor followed this ministry and that shows he was open and accepting of God's ways. He was not only praying for God to deliver him, but also accepting God's servants. Most miracles will take place when you come under the shadow of the anointing—at a church service (5F Church for example), revival event, or livestream. There can be other things that happen sometimes, like with this example. He didn't come to 5F Church in person but he accepted God's servant in his heart—me, for example—and the miracles could easily happen simply because the shadow of the anointing extended over him.

Imagine if he was struggling for a while to have this breakthrough and deliverance. It happened when this shadow of anointing extended over him.

Mark 11:23

“I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power],

You have to have the childlike faith of the anointing you carrythat the Kingdom of God is backing you when you speak. As you speak and believe with faith that the Kingdom of God is backing you up, it will be done for you, according to God's will.

but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will]. For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you.”

We can apply this to every citizen in the Kingdom, but you have to make sure you are going according to God’s ways, that you are positioning yourself under the anointing to receive what you are praying for and asking for.

But we also apply this to servants of God, to the disciples. Speak to the mountain. Use the authority that has been given to you. God has released anointing to His servants. He has put high-level authority in them so that when they declare things—when they declare demons to go, sickness must go, revival must spread, the mountain to move—it must take place.

Because these things are God’s will, with the small exception of some mysteries. For example: some people die younger than we think they should have, even though they were amazing people with good hearts. Sometimes someone is very old, but sickness is what leads to them passing away. They don’t die peacefully in their sleep. These are mysteries. That’s the part according to God’s will. But we know it is a main principle that the sick shall be healed, the oppressed shall be free, and God wants this to happen for His people.

So we walk in that faith. We command the demons to go. We command the sickness to go. And we have faith that it will happen. There might be times, once in a while, that it doesn’t, but that is the mystery part of God’s will. Still, it is our job to walk in childlike faith, trusting that God will move.

This is why a lot of what we see is old wine—old ways of thinking in the body of Christ. There are different levels of old wine. Some may be walking in miracles, but there are still remnants of old wine, because it’s a process. God brings new wine to beautify the bride. One of the remnants of old wine is servants of God thinking they must pray with so much effort to get the anointing to move. But this is old wine. We don’t see that in Scripture. It says nothing about praying for hours for the anointing to come.

The truth is that when God has called a servant of God, He has already placed the anointing there. It is in them. They don't have to pray for it to come to every service. It is in them even when they go for leisure, like seeing a musical. It is still there, and it keeps on growing.

Acts 3:6

But Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have; but what I do have I give to you: In the name (authority, power) of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—[begin now to] walk and go on walking!”

I love how the Amplified version says after “name,”authority, power.” That means it’s not in the name of Jesus in a religious way, like a secret password that makes a demon leave or a miracle happen. No, it means in the authority and power of Jesus. That’s why a servant of God doesn’t always have to say religiously, “Demon go, in Jesus’ name.” Sometimes they simply say, “Demon go. Be healed.” They are still doing it, from their heart and in the spiritual realm, in the authority and power of Jesus. It’s not about the exact phrase of “Jesus name”—it’s the truth, the heart, the faith, and the authority they walk in.

Peter saw the lame man and did not say, “Wait, I’ll be back in thirty minutes. I need to cry out to God to give me extra anointing to heal you. Please, Lord, don’t let me down. Heal this man. Give me more anointing for this kind of miracle.”

No! Peter said, “What I do have, I give to you.”

He had confidence in what God had already placed inside of him. That’s the difference between praying, “Lord, please move this mountain,” and declaring, “Mountain, move.”

When I come to minister, I don’t have to spend hours in religious prayers to get God to move in power. I know He has sent me, called me, put His anointing in me, and given me authority. He has given me the assignment. So when I stand here, I know that God wants this to happen. He sent me to do it. He has given me the power, the strength, and the grace. Therefore, it must happen. There is no question.

I know miracles will take place. I know the oppressed will be set free. I know the sick will be healed. I know God will do so many miracles—even ones I cannot imagine. I have that faith. It’s not my long, religious prayers that make the anointing flow. It’s not my prayers begging God to give me more anointing that make miracles happen. It’s even the prayers of the congregation. It’s up to God if He wants to pour more anointing, but I know for the miracles that will happen, since He's already given me the anointing.

It’s not the music, either. It’s not, “if we get the music right, then the anointing will come more.” When I first began ministry in the park, it was just Jeanntal and I. I had only a couple of years of childhood piano lessons, so I couldn’t play “soaking music chords” as I prayed for people. There was no track, no background music. Just silence. And guess what? The first time a demon manifested—it was in SILENCE.

In fact, ironically, it was the opposite of the “soaking music” sound. There was heavy metal music blasting nearby because another group was angry we were having church. So the very first demon at 5F Church was cast out while heavy metal music was playing.

God did that on purpose. He was introducing His new wine—teaching His ways from the very start. Music is good. It brings excellence. It helps people focus and not be distracted. It is from God when played with an anointed heart. But music does not bring the anointing more. It's not a matter of, “Maybe if we all worship, then God will decide to come.” No. We touch His heart when we worship and exalt Him, but when it comes to God's ways of releasing miracles, He puts it in His servants and they release the miracles.

The only thing that affects whether miracles take place when an anointed servant is ministering is faith.

First, the servant must have childlike faith. You believe in your heart that what you said will happen. And the people must also have faith. Remember, the only time Jesus could not do many miracles was because of lack of faith. So faith is the only factor. There's no need to worry or stress if the piano stops working or if I didn't do a lofty religious prayer before ministering.

Acts 12:5-9

So Peter was kept in prison, but fervent and persistent prayer for him was being made to God by the church. The very night before Herod was to bring him forward, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries were in front of the door guarding the prison. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared [beside him] and a light shone in the cell. The angel struck Peter’s side and awakened him, saying, “Get up quickly!” And the chains fell off his hands. The angel said to him, “Prepare yourself and strap on your sandals [to get ready for whatever may happen].” And he did so. Then the angel told him, “Put on your robe and follow me.” And Peter went out following the angel. He did not realize that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.

Acts 12:12-16

When he realized what had happened, he went to the house of ]Mary the mother of John, who was also called Mark, where many [believers] were gathered together and were praying continually [and had been praying all night]. When he knocked at the door of the gateway, a servant-girl named Rhoda came to answer. Recognizing Peter’s voice, in her joy she failed to open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter was standing in front of the gateway. They said to her, “You are out of your mind!” But she kept insisting that it was so. They kept saying, “It is his angel!” But [meanwhile] Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door and saw him, they were completely amazed.

In the old wine, this passage is interpreted as: Because the believers prayed so fervently all night, God then decided to free Peter. But that’s not what happened. When servants of God are obedient to God, the Kingdom of God government is automatically backing them up, moving on their behalf. When they're having issues, the Kingdom is there to help them. When they need things, the doors will open—the Kingdom of God government is there to make it happen and open up doors to release what they need.

Peter knew, “I am on God’s assignment. I am obedient. Therefore, the Kingdom of God government must back me up. I will get out of here because I have an assignment to do. I have to get out of the prison.” Peter didn’t think, “I hope everyone is praying for me. Let me tell friends and family to pray, pray, pray. Then God's heart will be moved.” It wasn’t about begging for prayers. God’s government was already backing him as His servant. The believers’ prayers were a good thing—but not because God “needed” them in order to move. Instead, God wanted the people aligned with His heart, standing in faith for their leader.

When your leader is in need, God doesn't want you to just go about your day. Have the faith that "God's got our leader. God is going to do a miracle and open supernatural doors for our leader.” He wants us to pray from love, compassion, and agreement with His desire for your leader—not from worry, fear, or religious begging. So you pray, “Thank you, God, for opening up the doors, for being with your servant.” Not begging, “God, do this please. Please do this for our leader. Please, God.” It's okay to pray with emotion and pray with tears. But what God wants to see is faith and understanding of His ways.

Going back to Moses, when the Israelites prayed for deliverance, God answered their prayers not by suddenly moving from heaven, but by raising up a servant. He gave His servant, Moses, all that he needed to deliver the Israelites. The people kept crying out to God for deliverance, while at the same time,  Moses was at the burning bush, feeling insecure about stuttering. God was already answering their prayers and raising up their deliverer.

In the same way, lukewarm churches are still praying for freedom, healing, and miracles to happen. God, meanwhile, was already in the process of answering their prayers by raising up His servants.

People think they need to add fasting or something to try to move God's heart more. But God hears, and He’s already moving. It's just a process that’s taking time. You need to have your eyes open to see and be ready to receive your deliverance when God releases it through His servants, instead of praying over and over.

My spiritual father, Prophet Dr. GeorDavie, prophesied that God sent him from home in Tanzania, East Africa to Los Angeles, California. He prophesied that “God and has heard the prayers for revival in America. He has answered them now. God is pouring out apostles and prophets, starting here in America, that will be anointed and be spearheading, leading this revival that God has brought that will spread from Los Angeles, across the US, and to the whole world. Nothing, I repeat, nothing, can stop this move of God. It's a new thing that is coming.”

This prophecy was from a true prophet of God. The Bible says, “You will know them by their fruit.” (Matthew 7:16-18). This word is not just for one church or city, for the charismatic Christians or those open to deliverance ministry. It was for the entire body of Christ in America and beyond. I know with all my heart that God wants all of His believers in America, all of His leaders in America and the world, to accept this prophecy.

It’s like Moses coming and saying “God has sent me to deliver you.” It’s a true word of God that is meant for all God's people, but most choose to ignore it because they want to hear God their own way. But God has a way of speaking corporately, through His prophets.

Since that word, I started to declare “Revival is now!” every week. It would be three and a half years from that prophecy until the first demon manifested. Then we saw revival break out. But revival truly began after that prophecy.

Just like the Israelites were stuck in Egypt for a little while, but their deliverer was there—revival was there. God was just in the process. The signs and wonders had begun in Egypt even though they didn't see them. For us, God was doing signs and wonders before we saw revival manifest in 2021.

God continues to prove Himself that this prophecy is true, that revival is now. Prophet Dr. GeorDavie said, “It is no longer the time to pray for revival. Because revival is now here.”

Praying for revival today is like the Israelites crying, “Lord, deliver us,” even as they were walking out of Egypt! This is praying without understanding, and it’s a waste of time.

We must pray with understanding, thanking God for what is here, and aligning with His heart. People praying for revival for America started out in a good way. But God has answered those prayers, so it’s not spiritual to pray for revival anymore. It's now time to accept the revival God brought, to accept the servants of God leading in the revival, and the persecution that comes with it. It's now time to not just accept it or watch it from afar but to dive into it, to catch the wave of revival, and to be a part of it so God can raise you up to be a powerful, anointed, vessel of God—a revival warrior—so the revival can keep growing to reach the ends of the Earth.

People are still praying for revival: they have big conferences where many people come to pray for revival, and they end up institutionalizing it. They keep holding prayer conferences, praying for revival, but God has answered. This is why it's so important to really grab onto the new wine and let go of the old wine. It's so important to pray the Jesus way.

You could be doing something religious that's institutionalized and not led by the Spirit, wasting time, not fulfilling your purpose, missing out on receiving from God, missing out on diving into the revival and receiving all the miracles that come with it. You could be missing out on being a powerful vessel of God and walking in your calling.

Do you see the seriousness of being all the way in the new wine, of praying the Jesus way? To discern: “I'm no longer going to do this. This is religious. This is old wine. I might have been doing this for a long time, and a lot of my friends are still doing this and believing in this, but I choose to surrender to Jesus. I choose to do things the Jesus way, not the old wine way.”

I encourage you to meditate on this word. This new wine is not going to come immediately. You have to get it in you and renew your mind with it.

In the next part, we will learn how to pray intercessor prayers, not just for yourself but for others, for your children, for revival, for your church—for things outside of yourself.
